Engineers gallery
Have you ever been served a canapé presented on LEGO? Engulfed around dry ice? Or, in a robotic arm? No? Well, we think you should be! If you say yes, then we will assume you were a recent guest at the opening of the Engineers Gallery at the Science Museum.
The Engineers Gallery
The gallery located at the Science Museum on the 1st floor of the East Hall welcomed over 250 guests to celebrate the work of Engineers worldwide. Blue Strawberry was called upon to deliver an exceptional canapé reception.
The brief?
Our team was asked to immerse visitors in the world of engineering, celebrate ground breaking innovations, and divide the night into four themes: “Bodies,” “Lives,” “Connections,” and “Creations”. Our mission was to seamlessly merge venue, environment, and gastronomy to create an extraordinary event. Let’s delve into the fascinating journey from concept to creation as our talented Event Stylist Georgie B and expert Event Manager Jo weave their magic.
Turning concepts into reality
Together Georgie and Jo attended a site visit to gain inspiration and understand how to best complement the Engineers gallery. Georgie’s keen eye for detail and aesthetic flair coupled with Jo’s menu expertise ensured that every element of the event would reflect the gallery’s themes seamlessly.
Bodies – Georgie cleverly incorporated canape trays that showcased the crucial role of engineering in improving healthcare. With moulds of hands that cradled bowls of food, Georgie symbolized the helping hand that engineers extend to society. This thoughtful touch reminded guests of the impact that precision engineering has on our well-being.
Lives – Visualising technological marvels under the “lives” section, Georgie explored the power of visualisation in shaping technology. LED lighting and digital imaging sensors played a pivotal role in Georgie’s design, illuminating the event space and creating a captivating atmosphere. This emphasis on visual elements beautifully exemplified how engineers’ imagination and foresight shape the world we live in.

Connections – Georgie ingeniously incorporated building blocks and bridges, visually representing the intricate connections that enable humanity to thrive. A dry ice tray with structurally connected slats became a mesmerising centrepiece, symbolising the interconnectedness of ideas and innovation.

Creations – Engineers are not only masters of technical expertise but also imaginative creators. Georgie captured this essence by incorporating LEGO blocks into the event styling, showcasing the creativity and boundless imagination of engineers. This playful element served as a reminder that the most ground-breaking innovations often spring from a willingness to think outside the box.

Elevating the gastronomic experience
Orchestrating the gastronomic symphony working hand in hand with Georgie, Jo meticulously curated a menu that perfectly complemented the Engineering theme. From precision-engineered canapes to visually stunning culinary creations, each dish brought the essence of innovation to the guests’ palates. Jo’s ability to harmonise gastronomy with the event’s overarching concept ensured a seamless and immersive experience for all attendees.
By skilfully incorporating the venue, environment, and gastronomy, Georgie and Jo brought the gallery’s themes to life in a remarkable way. From showcasing precision engineering through canapé trays to creatively representing the interconnectedness of ideas, this event was a testament to the power of imagination and attention to detail.
